Remnants of Los Angeles
A Surviving Trace

Joshua Spencer's debut Remnants of Los Angeles collection is a meditation on the found objects sublimated (or loaded) with a personal and collective history of a particular place. Conceptualized and hand-crafted in Downtown Los Angeles, Spencer works with world-class jewelers who have been rooted there for generations. Each high-grade silver piece is cast from a degrading mold, ensuring that it is one-of-a-kind, and then hand-plated with black rhodium and nickel. As the piece is worn and interacted with, the plating will naturally tarnish and gradually give way to the silver beneath--in effect, becoming more precious and personal.

and the edit begins.....again......fuck......

Editing to me has always been an emotionally draining experience.

About to go thru it again for a complete reboot of my portfolio and website.

Maybe I should take a different approach......

What if I only showed black and white film images with no retouching?

Lisa from Broken Social Scene.....

Had the great pleasure of shooting Lisa this morning before heading out for another job. Sometimes it's what happens in between the shots you're planning that end up being the most memorable images from a set. The happy accident.....

Fuck Yo Couch....

I have never been a team sports guy..the first time i stepped up to bat in little league i got hit in the eye and ended up in the hospital....
took my team photo then quit.
I've stayed clear of organized sports till my friend invited me to play dodgeball a few years ago, been playing ever since. I'm actually on a team, FYC (fuck yo couch), and the seasons about to start.
Had the team over and took some great portraits, here are a few for your viewing pleasure.

it's been a minute....

ant's don't sleep....
To say i've been busy is the understatement of the year... thus far.

Just got some film back from one of the funnest days in the past two months.

Another year older... wiser? In some respects. But i also feel like I'm slowly turning into a five year old again.

Riff.....black lung part II

Shot in an amazing warehouse the other day, fully abandoned and dirty as they come. At first my crew and I were dreaming about taking over the space and creating some sort of photo/creative space (so big and so cheap) but half way thru the day our lungs started acting up and by the end we had all but abandoned the idea.... They fought, she won. The Riff Winter shoot was a blast, Thank you to everyone who pitched in.

Film, film, film.....

As you may have noticed I have been shooting a shit load of film as of late. I've been documenting It's a School Night every monday and I'm thinking of turning it into a book after all's said and done. The first two images are extras from an early edit. The third image is, uhh, well it's me trying to catch a rainbow.

I....um...yea

wait for it.....

Rave hands and rainbows.....vegas vacation

Chambers look book jail party...

I had the pleasure of doing a bit of modeling for my friends Devin and Matt's clothing line Chambers.
Now, I don't consider myself the model type so when they asked me I was flattered- when I found out the theme was a jail line up it all made sense.......not that I was offended in any way, I'm still flattered.
The look book was shot by one of my good friends, Dan Monick, and the vibe was all party.

Thank you gentlemen, was a lovely evening.

The real Chris Adams...

Chris Adams is one of my best friends. He's one of those dudes where sunshine and rainbows outweigh gloom and doom on a constant basis. He pushes me to be an all around better man on the daily and for that, dear friend, I thank you.....

PAPA....

Had a killer start to the new year, just had my first day free since mid December. Here are a couple images from a shoot I was a part of a few weeks ago.  By noon on the first day all the models were calling me Dad (maybe cause I had the petty cash), but they were a true pleasure to work with and made my job easy.

Friends, part2

This is my definition of power couple, and they just got engaged to boot.

Marina Tia is one of my favorite designers ever, Garret Leight is also a brilliant designer.
His eyewear collection, Garret Leight California Optics just launched and I had the honor of shooting the look book a few months ago.

Thank both of you for inspiring me on a constant basis.
